Particularly on cold mornings the engine turns over but does not start, on th 9th or 10th attempt it eventually kicks over - its never failed to start but its hard to get going.l cant hear the fuel working when l first turn on the ignition, but it must work or the engine would not start. The car had a major service in Dec, and this problem was happening before that.Any body got any ideas?Fuel pump? Injectors??

Thanks

Fuel pump and/or injectors. If you keep cranking then your starter is going to fry.

Not only will your starter fry,
you will kill your battery.
Take it to the dealer, see whats wrong.
Then take it to an independent mechanic and have them do it for hundreds less :)
Good luck.

These late model Volvo is have a split tank, and sometimes the feed line from one side to the other can kink, or leak. If this happens, the gauge will register fuel in the tank, but the car wont start. They had some problems especially if the car is parked on a hill, see the link below for the technical service bulletin from Volvo!
