You can disconnect the battery for a while, but be sure you have your radio code to unlock the radio once you do that.

That battery thing does not work on newer cars! The computer actually stores the code.

If the fault is no longer present, after a set number of starts, the light may clear on its own. Nevertheless, a check engine light is NEVER something to ignore. Take it to an autozone and have them check the codes, normally they do it for free.

There is an easy way, but l agree with lionsroar about getting it checked first. Failure to do so can cause thousands of dollars in needed repairs! There is a fuse in the engine fuse box, labeled ''ECM pull this fuse for a minute and it will erase the codes.
